Whether it’s using cocoa butter for skin or upgrading to Vaseline Intensive Care, your skincare routine might need a change. Follow the right tips for results.
Facial skincare is not as complicated as some people would have you believe. While proper facial skincare is not as simple as applying face wash to the T-zone, it's certainly not about constant chemical peels and laser treatments. If you're looking to give your face the best care, keep these do's and don’ts in mind:
DO's:
Stock up on Sunscreen
Failing to use sunscreen not only puts you at risk of skin cancer but also makes your skin vulnerable to premature ageing and dullness. The Skin Cancer Foundation recommends you apply a dollop of sunscreen to your face and neck (about the size of a 50c coin), and make sure the product you are using has an SPF of 15 and higher.
Use the Right Moisturiser
Moisturisers are not a one size fits all solution. Before you commit to a moisturiser, ask yourself this simple question: what are my needs? If you have oily skin that's prone to breakouts, use a mild moisturiser that won't clog your pores. If you want to tackle razor burn while giving your skin a moisture boost, use Vaseline Men Anti-bump Face Moisturiser.
Use Bar Soap
The binders that keep a bar of soap together have a much higher pH than products that were created specifically for the face. This means a bar of soap is likely to have a drying effect on facial skin. Instead of soap, opt for sulfate-free gels, foams, liquids and creams.
DON'T:
Shave Against the Grain
Contrary to what some men believe, shaving against the grain will not give you a closer shave. Instead, this bad habit will create small cuts on the surface of your skin, which will trigger inflammation. Shaving against the grain is also likely to cause razor burn. Your best bet is to shave in the direction that your hair grows with as few strokes as possible.
Forget to Cleanse
Cleansing is a vital part of a skincare routine, yet how many men can say they've committed themselves to this crucial step? Cleansers remove dead skin cells, oil and other pollutants from your face. This goes a long way in unclogging your pores and preventing problems such as acne. Cleanse your face after a workout to prevent breakouts, and cleanse oily skin twice a day. If you have very dry or sensitive skin, cleanse once in the evening.
Use Products that Don't Work
If the products you've been using aren't yielding results, it's time for a change. There's no use being loyal to a product that offers no bang for your buck. Let's say you want your skin to be more soft and supple. Look into using cocoa butter for skin. And don't just do this for your facial skincare routine - rethink your relationship with the products you put on your body. If you've got very dry body skin, swap whatever you're using with a Vaseline Intensive Care product.
Follow these tips and you're bound to step out with your best face forward.
