Aloe Vera Benefits vs Shea Butter Benefits

Some of the most beneficial creams for your skin are those that are infused and enriched with the power of nature.

These natural properties have shown evidence to be highly therapeutic to skin, and highly effective in the treatment of some of our most common skin ailments – uneven skin tone, irritation, itchiness, and blemishes, to name a few. What’s more, they’re known to have soothing qualities that treat sores, spots and even sunburn.

What are these creams?

Well, there are a number, and at Vaseline, we’ve engineered formulations that make use of mother nature’s gifts – two of the most popular being aloe vera, and shea butter.

But what are the benefits of these ingredients? They both offer their own set of natural healing and moisturising properties – let’s talk around some of those here.

Choosing Between Aloe Vera vs Shea Butter

Aloe Vera

Aloe vera is a widely distributed succulent plant, that thrives in most conditions, from tropical to arid.

The biology of this remarkable plant allows it to store water in a fleshy internal tissue that contains complex carbohydrates. When combined, these form a gel – it’s that gel that is added to our aloe vera products. Due to the balance of water and those complex plant carbohydrates, the gel is what contains the bioactive compounds that are beneficial to our skin – vitamins, antioxidants, minerals.

What are the Benefits of using Allow Vera?

Aloe vera with its revitalising properties, lends significant protection to the most vulnerable and exposed areas of the body, and has a number of skin-care benefits, including:

  • Repairing sun damage and slowing ageing
  • Soothes the sore and irritated skin that comes with acne or eczema
  • Cools sunburn
  • Helps promote collagen release for smoother looking skin
  • Contains polyphenols – the antioxidants that help the skin fight certain infection-causing bacteria

Shea Butter

Shea butter is another naturally occurring ingredient that’s been proven to be beneficial to our skin.

Borrowed from the kernels of shea trees in sub-Saharan Africa, the formula contains high levels of vitamins – namely, A and E – not to mention the notable olein oil. Olein is a compound that gives therapeutic substances to our skin that work to help relieve conditions like irritation from allergies, bites, cracks and eczema.

What are the Benefits of using Shea Butter?

The main benefit of shea butter is in its moisture boosting ability. The fatty acids it contains, like oleic, palmitic and stearic acids, nourish the skin’s natural barrier, softening and hydrating it for a revitalised look.

That’s not all it can do, though. Shea butter has a range of proven added benefits, like:

  • Anti-inflammatory properties that help to calm and soothe irritated skin
  • Healing properties that help mend damaged skin
  • Relief from clogged pores that can lead to breakouts
  • Anti-bacterial properties that help heal acne
  • Helps to slow ageing

Can I use both aloe vera and shea butter together?

Aloe vera benefits and shea butter benefits are testament to the incredible skin healing ingredients that nature gifts us. Try each one for yourself and you’ll see, there’s no need to go any other skin-care route but natural, for the most beautiful results.
